2018 has been a big year for Kuoni Congress so far, successfully achieving an ISO 20121 third party audit for the Sustainability Event Management System in the offices of Barcelona, Copenhagen and Geneva in May, as well as Hana Peregrinova’s start as the new Head of Kuoni Congress, formally in September.

Below Hana gives her thoughts on sustainability in Kuoni Congress and beyond.

What have been the biggest benefits of incorporating sustainability and the ISO 20121 framework  into the business?

Sustainability is so high on the global agenda these days, no industry or individual can afford to ignore the importance of taking responsibility for one’s own actions. The main benefit of introducing a sustainability policy into our business is that we are not only increasingly aware of the effects of our activity, but that we are increasingly competent in finding new ways to tackle them.

The ISO 20121 framework allows us to demonstrate to our client base that we are proficient in offering sustainable alternatives and that we are a transparent and trustworthy supplier who takes responsibility for training staff on compliance issues and monitoring our procurement process.

What are the sustainability issues that affect you?

We are an organizer of Congresses with international delegate participations. Our most obvious impacts can be witnessed in the movement of people across the globe as well as the extensive use of resources in our destinations with the environmental and social impacts that this entails.

It is important for us to take responsibility and address these issues together with our clients and supply chain, in order that we can offer responsible Congress services that are conscious of impact and demonstrate positive influence wherever possible.

Where do you see your legacy on the business?

We are committed to ensure that sustainability fully infiltrates all areas of the business – Leadership, Sales, Operations, Training, Communication, Supply Chain. I believe the legacy will be demonstrated through the increased competence from colleagues in sustainability, as well as the collaboration with our supply chain on the areas that are important to our sustainability strategy.
