COLLABORATING WITH SUPPLIERS AND SOCIETY – KUONI DESTINATION MANAGEMENT

Rebecca Johnson, Sustainability Manager for Kuoni Destination Management, spoke at the Barcelona Sustainable Tourism General Assembly, explaining how Events Organisers can use their influence over suppliers and clients to reduce negative impacts, using specific examples from the provision of catering services.

Kuoni Destination Management underlined to the 80 delegates that even though they do not offer a tangible product, the agency’s unique position acting as intermediary between supply chain and client allows them to promote sustainable actions to reduce the negative impact of the event.

Furthermore Rebecca gave some specific examples of collaboration where Kuoni Destination Management has used its influence:

  • Collaboration with the Spanish NGO Nutrición Sin Fronteras (Nutrition Without Borders) to reduce the wastage of surplus food following events. Kuoni DM talks to catering companies, hotels and clients to promote awareness and encourage collaboration with the NGOs objectives.
  • Another collaboration is with the company Eaternity, who aim to promote healthy food with a low environmental impact.
